This set of bricks were part of an experiment to determine the amount of bentonite (23-1000-349-e) to add to a clay-y soil (23-1000-349-d). This soil mixture was then evaluated on how it performed when compressed within the brick press. Water was added to the point that the soil mixtures were between the 'plastic' and 'humid' range.

Notes: The bentonite sample was crushed by hand and added to the roughly sieved clay, this was then mixed by hand in a bucket and then further mixed on the tarp, this mixture was batch mixed in a larger quantity than the other mixtures. Have noticed that there are inconsistencies in the heights of the bricks, believe this is due to the initial pore space of the soil within the brick press, this could vary the actual volume of soil that is being pressed resulting in varied heights. To counteract this when the soil was placed in the brick press it was 'fluffed' to add more air to the mixture and to prevent us from 'overpacking' the brick press. Bricks were much more compressed, did not have areas of seemingly loose soil as some of the other mixtures had.
