Shui Hau, located in southern Lantau, is a uniquely deep coastal edge with rippled sand flats, mangroves, and tidal marshes. The sediment on this beach is in constant movement, churned by the tides, tourism, recreational clam digging, and water buffalos. To preserve the balance of this unique ecosystem, WWF has issued guidelines for visitors, for instance suggesting clam diggers to backfill digging holes and to release the smallest clams.
