Source-driven material

Palmeco Geo-Insulator was created in collaboration with Nano Advanced Material Institute (NAMI) & Geopolymer Institute and the research was funded by the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Bureau. It is an insulation material that is composed of palm fibre (collected waste from palm oil plantations in Malaysia), slag (collected waste from steel factories in China) and fly ash (collected waste from power plant in China).

The Geo-Insulator material is non-combustible, non-toxic and has good acoustic performance. The technology is migratable, meaning that it can be modified to use local waste products in other parts of the world.

Palmeco is a Hong Kong based company that focuses on innovative green building materials through research and development.

They state, "Our production processes (including mixing, rolling and curing) are low energy. These processes use little water and no gas emissions. Our products use 90% less energy than cementitious building materials, significantly reducing carbon impact on the environment."
