Leung Tin Au Valley, located in the western New Territories, is considered to be the only natural canyon of Hong Kong. Wind and water erosion over the steep granite formation has given the surface a scaly texture that, combined with the yellow mineral tone and lack of vegetation, has led to the nickname Pineapple Mountain or Por Lo Shan (菠蘿山) after a popular Hong Kong pastry.
