Cheung Sha is a rural and largely undeveloped area located on the south coast of Lantau Island. It is the longest beach in Hong Kong. In 2016, the Lantau Development Advisory Committee carried out a preliminary study on the feasibility of developing spa and leisure resorts in Cheung Sha. The government was considering introducing a market in Cheung Sha and hoping to make the site a tourist destination.
