Tai Tam Harbour (Inner Bay) was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1975. Covering approximately 16 hectares, Tai Tam Tuk is known for its habitat diversity on a small scale, which includes 1 hectare of the only remaining mangrove forest on Hong Kong Island, intertidal mudflats, sandy shores, sheltered sandy beaches, natural waterways, grasslands and shrubland. Tai Tam Country Park is one of the largest protected areas on Hong Kong Island.
