Tai Tam Harbour (Inner Bay) was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1975. Covering approximately 16 hectares, it is known for its habitat diversity on a small scale, which includes the only remaining mangrove forest on Hong Kong Island (~1ha), intertidal mudflats, sandy shores, sheltered sandy beaches, natural waterways, grasslands and shrubland. The surrounding Tai Tam Country Park is one of the largest protected areas on Hong Kong Island.
