Coastal South Lantau was traditionally a spot for the collection and processing of oysters. Lime produced from ground up shells was one of Hong Kong’s earliest exported goods. The oyster industry has since declined. However, recent efforts plan to revive the production through a combination of cultural heritage conservation and technological modernization. As part of the local culture, the production of lime-based materials retrieved from oyster shells is explored at TAL-L.
