An abundant mineral, quartz has been mined in Hong Kong and can be found in weathered granites or quartz veins. These crystal fragments were found at Ma On Shan Closed Iron Mine. The topsoil was removed for surface mining in the past and the quartz was exposed in the overburden. Quartz can be transparent or translucent as with thes samples.
