Process-driven material

This brick was created with biochar produced by Y-Park (https://www.ypark.hk/en/) under high temperature conditions (300-1000°C), in the presence of little, or no oxygen, to carbonise. The resulting material could potentially act as a carbon sink, sequestering carbon that would otherwise contribute to green house gas emissions. This brick is part of an experimentation of the applications of biochar as a building material, which possesses insulating, water absorbing, smell, and toxin absorbing qualities. (Schmidt HP, The use of biochar as building material)

The ratio of biochar and clay was tested. This brick composition of a course biochar, fine biochar, and clay results in lightweight, course, textured, and dyed properties.
